A Number of Affected as Rough Air Hits A Delta Airlines Aircraft into Sydney

A number of individuals have been injured following a Delta aircraft traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia was hit by significant turbulence Friday morning.

Delta Flight 41 "encountered brief turbulence" as it touched down at the Sydney airport, a company official informed. A number of the onboard staff required medical attention.

Local paramedics reported they treated five individuals, and transferred a trio to the hospital with relatively minor issues that such as spinal discomfort and migraines. The patients' ages ranged from their 30s up to the 70s.

This marks the latest incident of commercial jets being hit by atmospheric disturbance, with researchers indicating that global warming is a major factor.

On board were 245 people and fifteen staff members on the Airbus A350, the representative noted, clarifying that the plane arrived "without further incident" at Sydney Airport at shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday morning.

The NSW Ambulance Service indicated they received a call just only 180 seconds ahead of the plane arrived, and response teams were ready and waiting at the airport.

In the previous year, two dozen individuals sustained injuries when a Delta Airlines flight, flying from Salt Lake City, Utah to Amsterdam, Netherlands, encountered "considerable" atmospheric disturbance just 120 minutes into the lengthy trip, and diverted for an unscheduled landing.

Recently, travelers and staff on a Singapore Airlines jet endured a harrowing brief five-second bout of severe turbulence. An individual passed away and numerous people sustained injuries, as unbelted passengers lifted out of their seats and fell back down.

Bumpy air is fairly routine on aircraft journeys, and while occurrences of strong or severe turbulence seem to be rising, they are still very rare.

Estimates show that there are approximately thousands of instances of severe or worse turbulence every year, out of a sum of over 35 million flights that are conducted globally.

Intense turbulence is categorized as when the up and down movements of a jet experiencing disturbed air generate more than 1.5g-force on your body - sufficient force to throw you from your seat if you weren't wearing a restraint.

As global warming alters weather patterns, researchers alert that commercial aviation could become more turbulent: shifts in temperature and changing jet streams in the upper atmosphere are expected to increase the regularity and severity of severe turbulence.
