Christantus Uche Fuels Straightforward Crystal Palace Victory at Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their first-ever European adventure, Crystal Palace are adapting very quickly. Without key figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a comfortable win that all but guarantees them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.
A further three points in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be enough to secure direct passage to the last 16, especially following a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Seize the Opportunity
This match provided a platform for some of Palace's lesser-used players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a clinical finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second consecutive match.
A Shelbourne team that had concluded their domestic season were no match against a mostly second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were further weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg problems.
Control Asserted from the Start
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly established dominance. A slick passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a simple finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton went close soon after, fizzing a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after bursting into the area, but the referee waved away the protests.
The formerArsenal man didn't need to wait long to get his goal, prodding home from close range after Uche's shot had hit the post.
Shelbourne were clinging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for a couple of agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a header from a corner.

The contest was as good as over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some comically weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring his very first touch, only to see his effort blocked.
Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also missed a glaring chance, indicating there is still room for development in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a late knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise positive night for the traveling side.
