Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to go next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the group access places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that control the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
